Updating Swifttail for One D&D
It’s one of my goals is to have Swifttail, my personal fork of Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, play nice with both Traditional D&D 5E which Wizards of the Coast started publishing in 2014, and its evolution into One D&D which is in the beta stages today. I especially want people to create their characters in either version and then bring that to the table and have both characters from both versions play nice with each other as I DM the game using Swifttail.
Because of this, I intend to go through the Unearthed Arcana articles Wizards of the Coast puts out in D&D Beyond. While I don’t have that much interest in the character options—Swifttail leaves Character Creation to the Wizards of the Coast books, and I tend to use More Purple More Better for my Character Manager anyway—I will take the Rules Glossary which will evolve with each successive Unearthed Arcana article and go over piece by piece what can go into Swifttail. Some parts will be classic examples of “you shouldn’t fix with ain’t broke,” and I’ll keep what is in the 2014 rulebooks. And don’t feel bad, Wizards; I still use some parts from previous editions, such as the economy of actions (Standard, Move, Minor, and Reaction) and creating Fifth Edition variants of Fortitude, Reflex, and Will saves. But they will be some parts that One D&D gets right, and that’s the parts that will go into Swifttail. A prime example of this is Exhaustion, where I find One D&D’s version of an accumulative subtraction from d20 rolls and Spell Save DCs much better than a series of accumulative effects and conditions. And then there are the parts where I just go “Fine, I’ll do it myself,” and do my own complete overhaul. This is where the uniform Stat Block format comes from.
The following OneDrive document will compile all the items in the Rules Glossary, and I’ll update it with each future Unearthed Arcana article. What’s in here will become part of Swifttail when it gets released. There might also be some miscellaneous items thrown in which will get moved elsewhere. Some would be in Swifttail, others might end up in another document in Tales of Penumaria, or they could end up in other projects, but nevertheless, the pieces will be here for a while so that people can talk about them.

The Articles in November
And while we are on the topic of Swifttail, Volume 1 is in the proofreading stage. While there are some informal essays at the front, the majority of this file only needs rudimentary grammar checking.
Also in the proofreading stage is the Spelljammer document. Swifttail’s Spelljamming document is a classic example of the ‘Fine, I’ll do it myself’ approach where I take parts from both 2nd Edition and 5th Edition and combine it into a customized homebrew. It’ll become its own addition to Swifttail.
The dungeon worldbuilding document to The Sunken Fortress had hit a snag where I had to rehash a monster, but that’s been taken care of (you can find it in the linked One D&D document,) and so I can continue with building the dungeon.
I also have a top-secret project for National Novel Writing Month, which I will talk about more in 2023 in the rebuilt website. And speaking of websites…
The Foxfire Studios Web site
The website will be reset and relaunched in December, with a fresh new WordPress database, an upcoming marketplace for the downloadable Modules and books, and a Wiki for Swifttail since that will be released for free. I’ll also look into various means of group funding, some of which involve any secret projects over the holidays.
They’ll be some small updates in the subsequent articles, and I hope to give you some updates over November. Even though November is always a busy month. National Novel Writing Month, you know.
